Canoeists, Paddlers, Hikers and More: Haligonians Hear The Call Of The Big Wild

15 May 08

On Wednesday, May 14th, CPAWS NS and staff from the MEC Halifax store, took to the streets and engaged fellow city-dwellers about the Big Wild. After leaving the MEC Store with gear in hand (and on shoulders and in packs too), our group made it's way portaging through downtown, climbing up Citadel Hill and working through traffic on our way to the Spring Garden Public Library to set up Base Camp.

With a circle of tents and hot coffee free for passers-by in the background, we got to work speaking to pedestrians about the Big Wild, and what it means to "do something small, to save something big". With a photographer from the Chronicle Herald in tow, and an introduction to that night's CBC News at 6 Weather Report, the day proved to be a huge success, with lots of great street conversations, and a groundswell of momentum for this years first season of the Big Wild.
