Youth "vision" for the future of Nova Scotia`s natural resources heard loud and clear.
08 Aug 08
Between May and July, Nova Scotians were invited by the provincial government to articulate their “vision” for the future of Nova Scotia’s Parks, Forests, Minerals and Biodiversity through the Voluntary Planning process. The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Nova Scotia Chapter (CPAWS NS) is pleased to announce that youth from Halifax, Annapolis, Queens, Guysborough, Richmond and Antigonish counties have acted to have their voices included too.
With the support of D250, CPAWS NS directly engaged youth across Nova Scotia to participate in this process through the “share your vision” contest. By July 31st, CPAWS NS received over 80 creative submissions that included artwork, poetry, songs and letters and all were shared with the provincial Voluntary Planning department. These submissions will complement the comments they solicited and make sure an important voice is heard throughout the development of the Natural Resources strategy.
Based on the success of the “share your vision” contest, the CPAWS NS education program will continue to engage Nova Scotia youth in the conservation process. Future projects will include the upcoming Coastal Management Framework and Wilderness Area consultations across the province.
