Province releases public consultation summary for Blue Mountain - Birch Cove Lakes

Halifax - The public lands of Blue Mountain - Birch Cove Lakes near Halifax are one step closer to being designated as a protected wilderness area.
The provincial government has just released the summary document for public consultations held earlier this year.
Public Consultation Summary
Support for protecting Blue Mountain - Birch Cove Lakes was overwhelming. According to the document, the provincial government did not receive a single submission that was opposed to the designation.
"Protecting Blue Mountain - Birch Cove Lakes will help control urban sprawl and ensure healthy outdoor recreation opportunities", says Chris Miller, National Manager, Wilderness Conservation and Climate Change for CPAWS. "It will protect our land and water, and help establish Halifax as a modern, progressive city that values sustainable living".
In October 2007, the provincial government announced its intention to designate 1,350 hectares of public land in the Blue Mountain - Birch Cove Lakes area as a legally-protected wilderness area.
