Province permits commercial seal harvest inside a protected wilderness area
04 Feb 09
The Nova Scotia government has given the green light to a commercial seal harvest on Hay Island, inside the boundaries of a protected wilderness area off the coast of Cape Breton.
This will be the second year in a row that seals have been harvested from Hay Island with the permission of the provincial government.
The Wilderness Areas Protection Act precludes commercial harvests of any kind within protected wilderness areas.
