Province releases proposed final boundaries for Ship Harbour Long Lake Wilderness Area

16 Apr 09

HALIFAX - The Nova Scotia government has just released the proposed final boundaries for the Ship Harbour Long Lake Wilderness Area.

The boundaries have been expanded since the last round of public consultation, but the government has failed to include all of the additions recommended by a group of ENGO's, including Eastern Shore Forest Watch, Ecology Action Centre, and CPAWS.

Several areas have also been subtracted from the interim boundaries for the wilderness area, and a few of the additions proposed for protection are to be harvested for wood fibre prior to designation.

The provincial government is accepting written comments from the public until June 19th.

Please take a moment to review the document and comment on the proposed final boundaries.
