BioBlitz a success!!

It’s official. The 2009 BioBlitz held at Blue Mountain – Birch Cove Lakes was a success.
In a 24 hour period, over June 5th and 6th, a total of 858 species were identified in the Blue Mountain – Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area. Nearly 80 scientists and 500 members of the public participated in the event.
Among the species identified on the survey include, black bear, bobcat, river otter, ring neck snake, yellow spotted salamander, common nighthawk, pileated woodpecker, osprey, and painted trillium.
CPAWS would like to thank Saint Mary’s University for all their hard work setting up this event and all of the volunteers and community organizations involved.
