Speak up for Nova Scotia’s wilderness

CPAWS welcomes the release of the Nova Scotia government’s long-awaited parks and protected areas plan. Public consultations for the proposed plan are happening right now, and the province needs to hear your voice!

The proposed plan (map) could add nearly 250,000 hectares of land to the protected areas system in Nova Scotia, including:

  • 44 new protected wilderness areas
  • 120 new nature reserves
  • 4 new provincial parks

Additionally, the proposal could expand over 50 existing wilderness areas, nature reserves, and provincial parks. The province has a target of protecting at least 12% of Nova Scotia’s landmass by 2015, and the plan proposes to exceed this goal with over 13% protection!

This is a really big step forward for Nova Scotia. To make sure that this plan becomes reality, the Nova Scotia government needs to hear from you by May 1, 2013.
